Zuuny Medee
Zuunii medee is a daily newspaper with a circulation of 5000 copies per issue in 2015, thus ranked among top 10 Mongolian newspapers. (Document ID 1)When in 1998 the Media freedom law prohibited state ownership of media, the editorial staff of the biggest and influential state run newspaper “Zasgiin gazriin medee” (“Government news”) established the company “Medee LLC” and launched the newspaper “Zuunii medee” in January 1999. Сurrently the newspaper is owned bz ZGMS LLC. Its board of governors consists of members of the Media holding LLC which owns the TV9 (O-3065), FM radio 103.6 and the online news site www.polit.mn (both not MOM top media). The owner of these companies is N. Ekntuya, the sister of the former President of Mongolia N. Enkhbayar, who was a member of the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party. When in 2010 the MPRP changed its name to MPP (Mongolian People’s Party) N.Enkhbayar established his ‘own’ party with the old name “Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party” (MPRP). The newspaper Zuunii medee aligns with MPRP policy. The definition of its editorial policy is “to publish news and information on cultural, political, economic, social and sports events and issues” (O. Sonompil, S. Odkhuu, “The new wave of Mongolian newspapers”, Ulaanbaatar, 2013) The motto of the newspaper is “We advocate for citizens”. It is published 6 times a week with 8-16 pages in broadcasheet format. The newspaper is also available online for subscription.
